There’s been a whole intermittent fasting craze over the last few years, but that’s because it works. Not only is intermittent fasting good for getting you lean and shredded, but it will also help your immune system kick major ass. But why does it work? It works because by refraining from eating your body frees up more energy to heal because it’s you’re not digesting anything. When you’re in a fasted state (starting from 16 hours without eating) you enhance the effects of autophagy which is the process of your cells eating away at their weaknesses in order to become stronger. EAT REAL FOOD.
C’mon guys, this one’s a no-brainer. If you want to stop getting sick you better start eating consciously. By design, your body is the single greatest creation ever conceived. As a being of free will, the vessel has to be capable of carrying out what the mind wills. Your body requires top quality fuel. So don’t get served by your food, eat the foods that will serve you.
I know that saying “real food” is vague so I’ll quickly educate you. When I say “real food” I mean all types of food that has less degrees of separation from Sunlight as possible. Think about it, all life on Earth comes from the Sun. So all the food we eat is technically a recycled form of sunlight.
Plants were the first forms of life on Earth so they’re considered the closest to Sunlight.
Animals eat plants for nourishment, so animal meat is next on the list. So organic vegetables and meat that comes animals that are raised as close to their natural diets and environments (organic, grass fed, grass finished, free range, and no antibiotics ever) is what I’d consider real food. Here’s a bonus food, Sunlight itself. Just like plants we have light receptors in our skin and eyes. Getting exposed to some Sunlight a couple times during the day can help set your circadian rhythms and help you convert cholesterol into Vitamin D.
Now for how much food you should be eating. The perfect ratio between meat and plants you should be consuming is in your biology. Just take a look at your teeth. 4 out of your 32 teeth are canine and a practical use for them is for tearing apart meat. So roughly 1/8 (12.5%) of what you eat should come from meat sources such as beef, chicken, fish, and eggs. And the rest of what you eat should be a good combination of plant based foods that you can get healthy fats and carbs from such as fruits, herbs, leafy greens, sweet potatoes, nuts, and seeds).
So get your tan on, eat healthy foods, and you’ll be on your way to making your immune system an impenetrable force field. I don’t want to hear any complaints about healthy food not tasting good. Healthy food is food, and food tastes amazing. If you don’t think so it’s because you haven’t taken charge of your cravings and learned how to make amazing food that serves you for yourself.
